Friday FO Frenzy!
Say that 10 times fast!
Well - there has been a lot of knitting around here - what’s that you say? No - none of the items I am about to show you are for anyone else…only me.
Presenting - Ribbi Cardi - ChicKnits

I finished this sweater last spring, great pattern, worked up very quickly! I made this from some Encore that I purchased at Yarnzilla - closeout. I lengthened the sleeves and the sweater fits great! This sweater has been languishing in the “to be finished” pile for months - all because of a little ol’ zipper insertion phobia. I had even taken a class at The Yarnery, taught by Susan, but just couldn’t get myself to do it but the other day I was working on some armslits for the vague Vogue Cape (The cape with an attitude) and thought - “What is so hard about a little ol’ zipper?”
Warning: The following pictures of the basketweave cape are not for the faint of heart. I was not happy at all with directions. They were very vague with the front shaping pieces and the collar directions were not complete either. I also did NOT remember to do a stupid buttonhole 4 rows from the neck edge - but that is OK anyway because I don’t like doing buttonholes - I did an i-cord loop.

So here we have an innocent little - let me stress little and placed too high - arm slit. When I tried this cape on I felt like I was at camp and there was a person behind me doing the arm actions for me? You know the skit…well…I thought if I don’t drop these things about 3  inches I am never going to wear this thing - so…I sort of marked the area with yarn and cut (I didn’t mark the first slit - I just went straight to cutting!)

Bad picture - but you really don’t want to see all the messy details. I then picked up stitches and knit down to fill the new opening.

Then I sort of stitched them to the sides.

Not too bad…I then sort of sewed it up in the back and viola!

Hard to see but that is a good thing. You can’t see anything wrong on the front and it is actually wearable now. The inside doesn’t look bad either. If I had thought about this first like any sane person - I probably would have planned a bit better first - but then it would still not be finished…forgive the jeans…my ballgown is still at the cleaners.

This one needs a bit more work though:

Nice work on all the finishing! I sometimes have to save up a pile of it before I can stand to do it, too.

Very nice!! The ribby looks really flattering on you. And capes are so popular right now - I’m seeing them everywhere. Good job getting in on a trend early enough to actually enjoy it!

I *love* the cardi! Why is it zippers scare me less than buttonholes?

The cardi looks great — I especially like that you matched the zipper to the sleeves, gives it that extra zing.

HA HA HA HA HA HA. That last picture reminds me of the first hat I ever knit. It was about that big too. giggle

Connie, that Ribby Cardi looks great. I know how it is when you have something sitting there with only one thing left to do but it’s something your a little uneasy about doing, so you hold off and then when you finally get up the courage to try, you think, ” This wasn’t so hard, I don’t know what I was thinking?” The cape looks great, too. The hat needs a little work

Ribby Cardi looks wonderful!! The cape also turned out very well (your description of the initial slits made me LOL). : )
